2010 Auditions
Auditions for the 2010 season will be held on September 26th (1:00-9:00pm) and September 27th (9:00am-1:00pm) at Westerville Central High School. Please use Door #13 to enter.
Registration:
There is a $40.00 non-refundable audition fee that must be paid by cash or check before you are allowed to participate in the audition process.
What do I need to bring?
Since the audition is a two day process, you will need to bring whatever you will need to stay overnight on Saturday. This would include sleeping bag, pillow, and shower needs. We will take care of providing your housing for the night. We will provide dinner on Saturday night.
Flags will be provided. You will need to bring a rifle and/or sabre if you plan to audition for a weapon spot.
What do I wear?
You will want to wear comfortable, form fitting clothing. We will begin each day with a stretch and movement session. You will need something that allows you to have maximum flexibility and your feet and ankles must be visible. You will want comfortable shoes for the rest of the day.
What will we do?
The two day audition process will give you a chance to see what Juxtaposition is like and for us to evaluate your skills. You will be shown some of our stretch, movement, and equipment techniques, and you will meet some of the staff. You will learn a dance and flag audition routine. Weapons will also learn an audition routine. You will perform in small groups. You will get to have fun, perform, and meet new people.
What do I work on for auditions?
- Dance: Plie in all positions; tendu, rond de jambe, and arabesque on both sides
- Flag: drop spins, figure 8/carving exercise, pull hits, tossing singles and 1 1/2 on both hands, and a 45 toss
- Weapon (if auditioning):
- sabre: spins on both hands, a spins and stops (clock) exercise, flourishes exercise, hilt 1,2,3,4,5,6 (and try 7)
blade tosses 1,2,3,4,5
- rifle: spins on both hands, a spins and stops (clock) exercise, flourishes exercise, backhand exercise,
tosses 1,2,3,4,5,6, (and try 7)
Note: If you have previous weapon experience and are just not interested in auditioning a weapon spot, it is always good
to let us know.
When will we know who is in the guard?
Most prospective members will learn their status on Sunday, September 27th. Some people may be "called back" for the following weekend's rehearsal on October 3rd and 4th. By the night of October 3rd, the guard will be set. If you are "called back", you DO NOT have to pay another audition fee.
